Woman punched and shop clerk in attempted shoplifting at Roosevelt Field Nordstrom, police say


A Nordstrom employee was repeatedly punched and bitten once by a woman he was confronted with after leaving the Roosevelt Field store without paying for two hats and a pair of shoes – before being arrested – in Garden City on Thursday evening, Nassau police said.

Shatara Coney, 36, of Hempstead was “finally overpowered” by the store worker, police said, and detained until police arrived.

The accused was charged with robbery, assault, petty theft and criminal possession of a controlled substance because she had a pipe containing a “white powdery substance that is said to be crack,” police said in a statement. .

Despite being punched several times in the face and biting the left forearm, police said the store worker refused medical treatment.

Coney, arrested around 7:55 p.m., had “passed all shopping points and made no attempt to pay for the items,” police said.

The value of the items she is accused of stealing has not been disclosed.

His arraignment was set for Friday in Hempstead First District Court.
