Every year, the Jordan brand creates new additions and iterations of its various silhouettes, such as the Air Jordan 5. Now, much earlier than usual, we see the first glimpses of the Air Jordan 5 “Aqua”, which will be published in the following year.
After showcasing a few of their surprising takes this year, namely “Regal Pink”, “WNBA”, “Concord” and “Green Bean”, Jordan Brand will add the “Aqua” colorway to its lineup in 2023.
This newly fashioned Air Jordan 5 “Aqua” will hit the shoe market soon, on January 21, 2023. Nike’s SNKRS app and other select outlets will sell these shoes for $200 a pair.
Air Jordan 5 Gets An Aqua Makeover With Suede Overlays
After developing the Jordan 4 prototype, Tinker Hatfield wondered what his next pair of shoes would look like. Between 1989 and 1990, the famous designer came up with the fifth design, which ultimately led to the creation of the Air Jordan 5.
That’s what the shoe company says about the iconic fifth silhouette,
“Since his game-winning shot that brought championship glory to North Carolina, Michael Jordan has been at the forefront of basketball consciousness. He took to the court in 1985 wearing the Air Jordan I original, simultaneously breaking league rules and the will of its opponents, while capturing the imagination of fans around the world.
Although the iteration is labeled “Aqua”, most of the shoes appear black. Dashes of the aqua hue are prominent on the tongue flaps. In addition to Aqua Blue, hits of Lemon Yellow are also placed on the midsoles and tongues.
For starters, the upper body is dressed in premium black nubuck. A similar black finish is also noticeable on the TPU eyelets and lace locks. Beneath the black laces are silver-gray reflective tabs, adorned with Aqua Jumpman emblems.
The lateral sides are incorporated with the frosted white TPU net, characteristic of the fifth Jordan shoe. Additionally, the integrated midsoles with high-demand Air units are fashioned in black. On the midfoot, these shoes feature tooth-like designs in canary yellow tones. Related yellow hits are also used on the black suede heel counters, which are embroidered with yellow Jumpman emblems.
Regarding the design inspiration of the Air Jordan 5 shoe, the official Jordan website mentions,
“Tinker Hatfield was inspired by the biting style of Jordan and, comparing it to an American WWII fighter plane, he designed the Air Jordan V with sharktooth shapes on the midsole. Paired with a transparent outsole, the shoe imbued a ferocity reminiscent of its relentless muse.
Ultimately, the icy semi-translucent outsoles match the rest of the sneaker’s aesthetic.

Along with the aforementioned “Aqua” hue, the brand is adding an all-new “UNC” colorway to its footwear lineup. These next pairs will also be delivered in spring 2023.
