What is special about the Adidas x Allbirds collaboration?

In May 2021, Adidas and Allbird announced a partnership with a 12-month goal to reinvent manufacturing and supply chain processes.

The Adidas x Allbird collaboration had one goal: to create a performance sneaker with little to no carbon footprint.

The sneakers were created with 63% less emissions during production and the small number seen on the soles of the shoes is not just a random choice.

The 2.94CO2e represents the amount of carbon footprint at all stages of the product life cycle.

According to Adidas, this is the most carbon efficient running shoe they have ever created.

Adidas Global Brands Board Member Brian Grevy said in a press release:

“Our partnership with Allbirds is a beacon of what can happen when competing brands in the same industry see the possibilities of coming together to design.

“[With] Allbirds’ knowledge of carbon calculation and experience with natural materials, along with Adidas’ capabilities in shoe manufacturing and performance – it’s a call to action for other brands and a milestone in the sports industry to achieve carbon neutrality.”

What are customers saying about the new sneakers?

Although the shoes are still fresh on the market, that hasn’t stopped customers from leaving informed reviews on the Adidas website.

One reviewer wrote, “Worn twice and the seams have fallen apart. Poor quality shoes, but great design and comfort.”

“Light shoes. The quality is flimsy,” another commented.

It looks like the companies have definitely delivered on their promise of making the trainers light, breathable and comfortable – although, as the reviews show – this could come at the cost of quality.

Other customers, however, tried to look on the bright side.

One reviewer commented, “Great shoe, love the project.”

“A step in the right direction! Quality is cheaper on the material side but for a good cause,” added another sneaker owner.
