This new hotel in São Paulo is a marvel of design

There are six hospitality concepts at Rosewood São Paulo, including Taraz, by two-star chef and Brazilian TV personality Felipe Bronze, which overlooks a calming courtyard of olive trees. (Eat here for a luxurious, relaxing lunch of South American cuisine like pineapple and pork tacos and all manner of ceviche.) Still, it’s Brazilian jazz bar Rabo di Galo that’s likely to create the most buzz for the hotel. With live music every night and a distinctive cocktail list – one drink, for example, comes with quail eggs instead of olives – it also has a spectacular vibe: artist Rodrigo de Azevedo Saad, better known by his nickname, Cabelo, spent over 68 hours hand-drawing constellation-like patterns on the ceiling, giving the entire room a ‘under the psychedelic stars’ feel.

Rooms are adorned with wooden walls, white linens, and pops of color: some suites, for example, have a lime-green serpentine sofa, while others have swirling rugs of jade, sage, and brown rugs Amazonian. Playful accents, like guitars, maracas and Brazilian poetry books by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, abound. As Radha Arora, president of Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, says, “Brazil’s rich heritage influences every aspect” of the hotel.

There are no single-use plastics at Rosewood, and everything from food to furniture is sourced from local and recycled materials. They hope to be on 100% renewable energy, helped in part by their on-site solar panels, by the end of the year. “We want, at the very least, to leave this place in the same state as we found it, if not to improve it,” says Grosmangin.
