Repeat shoplifter hides stolen sandwiches in pants at Riverview store – The News Herald

A thief allegedly stuffed two sandwiches and a bag of crisps down his pants at a Riverview store and then walked out without paying for them.

The theft took place on the morning of May 31 at Circle K, 12705 Pennsylvania Road. An officer was dispatched to the store at 8.15am on the report that a man had stolen the items about 10 minutes earlier.

Reviewing the store’s surveillance video, the officer recognized the thief in a shoplifting that occurred at the store on May 26. On the May 31 flight date, he was wearing white jeans, a white t-shirt and black Van shoes.

According to police, the video shows the man grabbing two sandwiches and placing them in the store’s microwave at 8:04 a.m. While the sandwiches were being heated, he placed a bag of chips in his pants to conceal it. He then returned to the microwave, where he was seen removing the sandwiches from the microwave and then placing them in his pants as well.

The store clerk told the officer the man had left the store without paying for the sandwiches and chips, where he was seen walking north to an apartment complex in Southgate.

Police said the suspected thief was involved in several incidents at the store and was told not to trespass on the property again. His most recent warning came after the May 26 incident.

The officer advised store management to deny the man entry to the store and if he enters anyway, they should call the police.

The officer issued the man a citation for retail fraud and trespassing and sent it to his last known address by certified mail.
