When podiatrist turned shoe designer Anna Baird decided to open a flagship store in Sydney, Australia’s central business district, she set out to make a store as stylish and comfortable as her shoes. However, the design of the new storefront was not without acoustic challenges: while the open spaces and clean architectural details created an inviting atmosphere, they complicated the sound coverage and intelligibility of live music and performances. “We want people to visit Sydney’s flagship not just for the shoes, but for the whole shopping experience,” Baird explained.

The two-story flagship location features high ceilings, wooden floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows inspired by the colonial heritage neighborhood across from the store. The design of the space was intentional from top to bottom, with cultural reconciliation, public accessibility and sustainability all being top priorities. To meet audiovisual challenges and meet the need for an impeccable sound system for live music, Baird and his team turned to Affective building services.

Affective Building Services, a multi-disciplinary contractor based in Sydney, AU, worked with Renkus-Heinz Australian and Oceanic Distributor, Amber Technologyto define audio requirements and ultimately advise on the best speaker solution for the space.

To meet the needs identified by Baird and his team, the Renkus-Heinz C-Series was specified and installed. Seven Renkus-Heinz CX41 the speakers have been strategically placed in the store to provide high sound performance and intelligibility.

“When Bared Footwear approached Affective Building Services with the project, their team called on us for our technology expertise. We knew Renkus-Heinz would have the a solid solution for the space,” said Richard Neale, CEO of Amber Technology. “The CX41 loudspeakers deployed in the Sydney flagship deliver an exceptional full-coverage solution for in-store DJ performances and soundtracks played every day.”

The CX41 delivers the power, versatility, and all-around performance Renkus-Heinz is known for in a miniaturized, space-saving design. The compact speakers disappear into the background of space, preserving the comfortable and sleek aesthetic that Baird has cultivated. Delivering clear sound throughout the store, the CX41s were the perfect solution to help Bared Footwear create an ideal shopping experience.

“Once installed, the CX41s were virtually hidden and customers were not distracted by the large enclosures cluttering the corners of the store,” added Brad Merriman, director of Affective Building Services. “The Renkus-Heinz speakers allowed us to create a space that not only looks great, but sounds incredible.”
