Perth-born and bred store Highs And Lows is set to drop a collaboration with global sneaker brand Asics.
The best part is that local sneakerheads can get their hands – or feet – on a pair of the special edition HAL Studios X Asics GEL-1130 “Earth” before the rest of the world.
These types of international footwear deals are rare for an Australian streetwear brand, let alone a Western Australian brand.
But those opportunities come with the territory when you’ve been operating for 17 years and have a decade-long partnership with Asics and produced many impactful collaborations, just like Highs And Lows founder Matthew Thomas did. .
“As a collaboration partner, we’re the lead,” Thomas told AAA.
“Our plan is to try to offer people on Easter Saturday the option of going to both our Claremont store and our King Street store and being able to buy them the same day instead of just selling them. online,” he said.
Although “a lot has changed in the 17 years we’ve been around”, Thomas has seen the retail landscape become “bricks and mortar” again and bring our cities back to life.
“Maybe (people) saw it (the collab) on the internet and thought ‘man, I couldn’t have gotten a pair’ and then maybe just walk into their local store and buy a globally recognized shoe,” he said.
HAL Studios was launched in May last year under the creative direction of John Bouquet and is a multifaceted creative house.
“We wanted to develop something that we both thought was really needed, which was to give Highs And Lows a brand that was outside of its bricks and mortar history,” Thomas said.
“But the name always had some sort of lineage, so that’s why we kept HAL, and the studio part is really what you do in a studio, which is like a think tank.”
