Opening of a new clothing store in honor of Otto Beatty Jr. in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A new men’s clothing store is supporting poor young men looking to enter the workforce.

The store is named after Otto Beatty Jr. and opens its doors to IMPACT Community Action.

“Otto always got the job done and he was always keen to give back,” said Rep. Joyce Beatty, of Ohio 3rd District.

Just over a year after his death, members of the Beatty family and IMPACT Community Action came together to open the Otto Beatty Jr. Men’s Boutique.

The clothing store is stocked with suits, ties, shirts and shoes, all donated from Otto Beatty Jr.’s wardrobe, to be sold to men in need of business attire.

“And that’s what it’s all about, being ready to go out and be part of the workforce,” Rep Beatty said.

Beatty says her husband was a man who believed in dressing professionally and making a good first impression, a wisdom he passed on to his own children and grandchildren.

“We are so proud of his legacy and grateful to all organizations,” said Otto Beatty III, attorney and son of Otto Beatty Jr.

“I love my grandfather with all my heart and he was a great grandfather to me,” said Spencer Beatty, grandson of Otto Beatty Jr.

However, the shop is not limited to clothing, but also gives men the opportunity to hone their personal and professional skills.

“There’s a workforce development program, which helps people learn how to write a resume or how to interview for a job,” Rep. Joyce Beatty said.

They also provide a professional haircut and photo for men who apply.

What IMPACT Community Action hopes to benefit the public.

“I have my own exclusive Otto Beatty Jr. tie, and like I said, I feel powerful and ready to take on whatever comes my way,” said Bo Chilton, CEO of IMPACT Community Action.

The Otto Beatty Jr. Men’s Boutique will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
