New Air Jordan shoes pay homage to Dean Smith’s release next week

We are still months away from basketball season as the Hubert Davis era for the UNC basketball program kicks off. But next week Air Jordan will pay homage to legendary trainer Dean Smith with a special shoe.

Michael Jordan’s iconic Jordan Brand is set to launch the latest colourway for the Jordan Series .01 model and pays homage to MJ’s varsity trainer in a unique way.

The model features a mix of suede and mesh materials on the shoe and is dressed in a Carolina Blue colourway with white and then red accents on the tongue. It makes sense that it features the traditional Carolina Blue colourway with white, but where the shoe really stands out is in the details.

The words “Dear Dean” are on both languages while the words “Swing for the Fence” are on the right sockliner. It is completed with “There Was Never Any Doubt” and “It Went Down In The Backyard” on the rubber sole.

Jordan and Smith are both iconic not only to the UNC basketball program, but to the game of college basketball as well. Playing for the Tar Heels has its perks with Jordan Brand releasing special edition shoes for players and colourways for fans. And this model is another take on it, allowing fans to honor the late trainer.

The shoe is slated for release on August 26 with a retail price of $ 80 and will be available at select retailers across the country as well as Nike.com.

It also won’t be the latest UNC-inspired shoe from the Jordan Brand line, as we should see some great colorways of retro models in the near future as well.
