Julianna Roppo

Editorial agency reed words named Julianna Roppo as creative director of his newly opened New York office. Roppo was previously director of verbal design at digital products company R/GA and worked with clients including the Academy Awards Museum and fashion house LVMH.

brand workshop Vault49 (which has offices in New York and London) announced Susan Levy as the new Head of Client Management. The senior design and client manager will work in both studios.

Wolff Olins announced two new recruits. Neil Cooper (previously at Rehab digital studio) joins as senior creative director while Astrid D’Hondt (previously at DixonBaxi) takes on the role of Associate Creative Director.

WPP named Kyoko Matsushita as CEO in Japan. Matsushita will be responsible for business in Japan. She was previously CEO of Essence Global, a WPP media agency. According to WPP, the new role reflects a commitment to growth in Japan, which is the world’s third largest economy.

Sports animation company So rarewhich is used by nearly 2 million sports fans, named Dan Sormaz as design manager. Sormaz joins Spotify where he was vice president of design. At Sorare, Sormaz will work on design touchpoints such as the mobile app, digital trading cards and visual identity.

Kyoko Matsushita

taxi studiobased in Bristol and London, has announced several changes to its team. ryanwills takes over as CEO, while Alex Bane now leads the studio’s commercial team as Commercial Director. La Poste group commercial director Martin-Robert joined the studio’s board of directors.

Dr Martens named Darren McCoy as the new Global Creative Director, where he will oversee the footwear brand’s design team. McCoy, who has worn the shoes forever, calls this new role a “massive responsibility” and adds that he will strive to balance innovation with a “respect for the heritage and history of the brand”.

Brand consulting Big fish announced Chloe Templeman as the new Executive Creative Director. Templeman was previously creative director at Design Bridge. Big fish also recently announced the filmmaker and designer Garrick Hamm as a creative consultant.

pearl fisherman London promoted Jess Phillips to the creative director. Phillips joined the consultancy as an intern in 2012.

Based in Dublin and London Rowdy hired Alex Johnson (formerly Dragon Rouge and Someone) as senior designer.

Berlin-based studio Battalion, which has worked with brands such as SoundCloud and Hello Fresh, has opened an office in the UK. Its remote design team includes JUlian De Sousa, Joseph Joyce and founder of the studio Katy Rea.

design studio Close closed after 14 years, its co-founders Kevin Palmer and Matt Wade announcement.

Council based in Cornwall Nixon Design became an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). The studio was founded in 1992 by Martin Nixon, and now has a team of 13 designers. Nixon continues as director of EOT.
