The former world number one at the time wore two awful outfits for the 2004 US Open. The other features a mix of black studs and denim, giving him a more metallic rock star appearance and had in common the boots of sparkling sneakers. However, the designer recently opened up about the inspiration for these stylish tennis shoes and their relationship with Serena Williams.

In a recent conversation, the designer, Wilson, said: Oh great so I always looked at her shoes, she always wears boots and asked her what you think about tennis shoes, she said oh I love tennis shoes and she signed up for that. And that was kind of fun… So I made these boots so you could close that part of the boot.

He added, “She’s wearing boots and flashing cameras, but that night they (Nike) said to me, we don’t want her wearing those boots all the time; it’s too much.”

Moreover, these shoes have also been seriously criticized not only by tennis fans but also by the partner company Nike.
