John Fluevog Shoes closes his Uptown Minneapolis store


Canadian retailer John Fluevog Shoes has closed its doors for good its only store in Minnesota.

The shop, at 2900 Hennepin Ave. at the Uptown Theater in Minneapolis, closed Oct. 15 after nearly a decade (it opened in 2012), with the company make the announcement with “a very heavy heart”.

Store manager Jamie Liestman, who has worked for Fluevog Minneapolis for nine years, said she has met “so many loving, strange, enthusiastic and fantastic people,” adding that “the Minneapolis team… have hope for the future” . according to the company site.

The company did not give a reason for the store’s closure, but said: “While there is hope that a Fluevog store may one day return to Minneapolis, no immediate plan has been confirmed. . “

Liestman told the Business Journal the store made the financial decision to end its lease a year earlier, adding that foot traffic in the area has been on the decline since 2017, adding that the riots and the COVID-19 pandemic were “like the nail in the pan. coffin for Uptown, I think, business-wise. “

Fluevog is the latest Uptown business to close. In recent years, there has been an exodus of retailers in the region: Victoria’s Secret closed its Uptown store in 2018, followed by Columbia Sportswear and North Face in 2019. The Apple store there closed in 2020 and Juut closed in June.
