North Georgia Goodwill will open the doors of its Metropolitan Parkway store and career center on April 21, 2022at 09:00, according to a press release on Tuesday. Located at 2160 Metropolitan Parkway, this location will create a new shopping experience for thrift stores and provide free access to job search resources to more than 8,000 job seekers.
Goodwill will sell “amazing finds” such as clothing, accessories, homewares and shoes. Profits from the sale of these items are then used to fund the company’s 14 career centers located in the region and online environment, career connector. The Metropolitan Parkway Career Center will be their 14th career center.
Through the Career Center, the community will have free access to job search resources such as computers, resume writing tools, job postings, employment seminars, software training, and vocational training programs. These professional training programs include technology careers, supply chain management, transportation and logistics (including CDL), and customer service/retail.
“As we put the finishing touches on the new site, our hope is to become part of the fabric of the community and become a catalyst for transformation in South Atlanta,” said Goodwill’s CEO. Keith Parker noted. “We want to provide the necessary resources and access to those resources that will help the community thrive.”
Goodwill received a $712,000 grant of Invest in Atlanta for City of Atlanta residents and Metropolitan Parkway Workforce Development Services. This grant will support the efforts of the Metropolitan Parkway Career Center and allow the nonprofit organization to continue to provide additional job training and services to those seeking new career opportunities. This grant will help provide free training to students in the CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) and Technology Careers program, as well as provide additional services necessary for participants to help ensure their success.
