Delhi police arrest man for robbing jewelry store with toy gun to indulge in online gambling

Delhi police have arrested a man who robbed a jewelry store at gunpoint with a toy gun to settle debts he had accrued due to his online gambling addiction. The accused, Rinku Jindal, 36, was arrested on Thursday 25 August.

On 13 August, at around 1 p.m., while Anurag Garg, the owner of a jewelry store, and his servant were present in their shop, the accused, Rinku Jindal, covered his face with a handkerchief and stole ten gold chains and Rs 20,000 at gunpoint and fled the place.

After analyzing CCTV footage, he was seen crossing the road and taking an e-rickshaw. However, the police team could not fully follow him as he had disappeared into traffic. They found he was holding a plastic bag in his left hand and a gun in his right hand.

Officials discovered the name of a Saket-based company was written on the plastic bag. The team began working in the vicinity of the two schools through local intelligence services to find suspects.

After almost a week of continuous effort, for 6-7 consecutive days, the police began to suspect that the accused was Rinku Jindal, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Shalimar Bagh. He had already been arrested on March 2, 2019, when he robbed a bank in Prashant Vihar.

He was released on December 30, 2019. Rinku Jindal reportedly had no source of income but was addicted to online gambling. On Thursday August 25, he was apprehended by a team from Haiderpur’s special staff, Shalimar Bagh.

Seven gold chains he had stolen were recovered from his possession. He had mortgaged a chain weighing 76 grams and taken out a loan of Rs 2,60,000.

He had already lost Rs 1,50,000 in online gambling and the remaining amount of Rs 90,000 was also recovered from his possession. The clothes and shoes he was wearing as well as the toy gun used in the incident were also found.
