A special edition pair of NBA 2k22 shoes featuring the bright and bold design of Gamilaroi and Wiradjuri artist Allan McKenzie.

The Adidas Harden Steoback 2.0 basketball shoes will go up for auction in late February, with all proceeds going to the Indigenous charity Red Dust.

A cause close to Mr McKenzie’s heart, the artists told NITV News he feels “honoured” to use his art to make a difference.

“I’m honored that 2K asked me to collaborate on one of their most popular games, which inspired most of the shoe design – along with the game of basketball,” he said. declared.

McKenzie said it was an incredible opportunity to showcase Indigenous culture.

The shoes are the result of a collaboration between Mr. McKenzie, Red Dust and global video game 2K Australia. The limited-edition shoes will be auctioned off to support an Indigenous charity.

Proceeds from the auction will help Red Dust continue its mission to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.

Scott Stirling, CEO of Red Dust, said the funds will directly support them in their community development projects in remote communities across Australia and help continue health promotion programs.

“Basketball is deeply rooted in Red Dust’s history, our founder had close ties to the NBL, and our early visits to remote communities involved star NBL players as volunteers,” he said. he declares.

“Their efforts have inspired hundreds of athletes to follow suit for 25 years, engaging in inspiring two-way exchanges with thousands of young Indigenous children in remote communities.”

Founded in 2006, Red Dust has worked in remote Indigenous communities for 25 years.

“I’ve looked at a lot of the work that Red Dust has done, it’s my first time doing anything that goes to a charity like this, but I thought it was an amazing opportunity. to give back to remote communities and to make sure the proceeds hit the ground running,” McKenzie told NITV News.

By stepping out in these shoes, McKenzie hopes to inspire other Indigenous artists to share their art in new and exciting ways.

“The response has been phenomenal with lots of positive feedback…I’m really happy with how it turned out,” he said.

The auction will be live on Red Dust’s eBay page at 12pm AEDT on February 21, 2022 and will continue until 12pm AEDT on March 2, 2022.
