Allbirds Opens Second Canadian Store at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Center

Sustainability-focused lifestyle brand all the birds opened a store in Toronto’s Yorkdale Mall. It is the second of two retail outlets in Canada, having opened in Kitsilano, Vancouver in June.

Tim Brown, CEO of Allbirds, told Daily Hive that opening a store in Toronto was a no-brainer after a few successful pop-ups in the city.

“Toronto is an important market for Allbirds, so it was a natural evolution for us to decide to put down roots here,” Brown said. “I hope this is just the beginning of our commercial presence here.”

Founded in 2016, Allbirds is dedicated to making sustainable everyday products using premium natural materials. The brand has physical stores in the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, UK, Netherlands, Germany, France and New Zealand.

Located inside the Yorkdale Shopping Center at 3401 Dufferin Street, the The 2,425 square foot store reflects the spirit of the brand commitment to sustainability with the use of natural materials instead of synthetic fibers.

The entire front is constructed from fully recyclable aluminum and renewable walnut plywood. Even the service counter is made from locally sourced renewable maple plywood.

Custom wooden dressing chairs and uniquely shaped mirrors are on display throughout.

Among the shelves, customers will find popular items like the Trees flyer. It’s a lightweight running shoe with a geometric midsole made from materials like eucalyptus fiber, sugar cane, recycled plastic bottles, and castor beans.

For the sake of transparency with its customers, each Allbirds shoe has a label on the back indicating its carbon footprint (the Tree Flyer has 9.92kg CO2e, which is 20% less than your normal shoe).

According to Brown, the Relay Dashera slip-on shoe made from renewable materials, and the Shooter 2another carbon neutral shoe, are the other products flying off the shelves.

“We bring a different approach to design and innovation to a category that for the better part of 50 years has been dominated by plastics and synthetic materials,” Brown said. “There is huge consumer demand for brand transparency and products that don’t compromise…and put sustainability first.”

Shoppers outside the GTA can shop Allbirds online and enjoy free shipping on orders over $50, plus easy returns.
