A person injured in a shooting in the parking lot of the Sebastopol grocery store

Sevastopol Police are investigating a shooting on Tuesday morning that injured a man and briefly locked out nearby West County High School.

The shooting took place in the North Main Street Safeway parking lot around 8:30 a.m.

One victim suffered a non-life threatening injury, Police Chief Kevin Kilgore said Tuesday afternoon. The man is being treated at a local hospital.

The shooter is described as a Hispanic male wearing a black beanie, red sweatshirt or hoodie, blue jeans with a black stripe down the side of the leg, white athletic shoes, and a black face cover.

He fled north on Route 116 in an older model red two-door sedan. The hubcap on the rear driver’s side was black or missing, and there may have been damage near the rear passenger’s side.

The gunman was a passenger and the driver is described as a blond haired woman, police said.

The weapon is described as a revolver.

The neighboring high school was briefly closed.

Deputy principal Dani Barese alerted staff, parents and students to the shooting and lockdown around 8:50 a.m. and asked people not to come to the Analy Avenue campus.

Eight minutes later, Barese said the high school was reopened after police said the suspect fled the area.
